Japan Province to Support Hanoi in Environment Protection

Japan’s southern province of Fukuoka has pledged to help Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi protect environment and manage surface water resources under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between authorities of the two sides in Hanoi Oct 11. Under the MoU, the two localities will cooperate in treating wastewater and exhaust fumes, recycling toxic waste, industrial and domestic waste and boosting the use of clean and renewable energy in a bid to cope with climate change, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said Oct 11. Hanoi and Fukuoka are willing to share experiences in some fields, such as training human resources, raising the public awareness of environment protection and transferring technologies of environment treatment. The two sides will study and apply advanced technologies that were successfully applied to Fukuoka to small- and medium-sized dumping sites in Hanoi. Residents, companies and hospitals in Hanoi discharge nearly 458,000 cubic meters of wastewater a day, of which 41% is domestic wastewater, 57% industrial wastewater and 2% medical wastewater.
