JICA Funds $5M to Help Vietnam Develop Biomass Next 5 Years

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has funded $5 million to help Vietnam develop biomass in the next five years. Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology of Vietnam and University of Tokyo will establish a system of equipment models for research and a large-scale pilot factory to produce biomass in My Thuan commune, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City, the Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper reported. Biomass, a renewable energy source, is biological material derived from living, or recently living organisms such as cane, bagasse, cassava, wood and animal waste. Vietnam boasts a huge potential for harnessing 1,600 MW of biomass.
