Kien Giang Province Supports VND213B for Poor Patients

Since the beginning of the year, the poor patients’ sponsor association of the southern province of Kien Giang has encouraged organizations and individuals to donate VND85 billion to support poor patients’ medical treatment, bringing the total amount of money having been mobilized over the past six years to VND213 billion. The money has been used to focus on eye and heart surgeries, women’s diseases and providing wheelchairs for poor patients. In two years, the association organized eye surgeries for 3,665 poor patients, heart surgeries for 292 patients, gave gynecological checks-up to over 2,000 women, and presented 437 wheelchairs for poor patients with disabilities. In addition, the association has also helped to build houses for the poor, construct rural bridges, and given bicycles to poor pupils.
Tran Lam, head of the association, in 2010, the province will strive to mobilize VND55 billion to hold 2,700 eye surgeries, 200 heart surgeries, and 100 gynecological for poor patients, and grant 300 wheelchairs for disabled poor patients, while implementing other programs such as building houses for the poor, building rural bridges, schools and giving bicycles for poor pupils.
After six years since the establishment of the association, Kien Giang province has encouraged domestic and international organizations and individuals to support the poor in the provinces and neighboring provinces, including some in Cambodia.
