New Poverty Line for 2011-2015 Period Submitted to Vietnam Government

The new poverty line for the 2011-2015 period has been submitted to the government of Vietnam, the Ministry of Planning and Investment said at a conference on orientations for poverty reduction programs which was held by the Ministry of Labor and ministries and agencies in Hanoi on May 25. Under the new poverty line, a person in rural Vietnam earning a monthly income of VND450,000 and anyone in urban areas having their income of VND600,000 a month is considered a poor person. Between 2006 and 2010, the poverty line ranges from VND200,000/month/person to VND260,000/month/person, Nguyen Trong Dam, deputy minister of labor said.
