Project Officer

Project Officer for HIV/AIDS
Location:    Hanoi, Vietnam
Start Date:    March, 2010

Overall Responsibilities
The Project Officer is responsible for supporting the work of Medical Officers in Hanoi by assisting them in providing training, technical assistance, and supervision in HIV treatment at hospitals and clinics where USG-supported antiretroviral therapy (ARV Rx) is being initiated and by assisting them to plan and implement training activities for Vietnamese clinicians throughout the country.

Specific Responsibilities
1. Assist Medical Officer(s) to provide regular training and technical assistance in HIV care and treatment in designated hospitals and clinics.
2. Supervise the initiation and scale-up of USG-supported ARV Rx in designated hospitals and clinics.
3. Assist HAIVN Medical Officer(s) to plan and implement provincial and national training courses for Vietnamese physicians:
a. Assist with writing and refining curricular materials
b. Translate curricular materials into Vietnamese and interpreting at training courses
c. Take a lead role in training at HAIVN training courses
4. Assist in development of HAIVN HIV training modules for Vietnam.
5. Provide technical assistance to CDC and Vietnamese government agencies on HIV care and developing outpatient HIV clinics.
6. Provide planning and coordinating all HAIVN trainings and technical assistance activities.
7. Represent HAIVN at conferences and meetings with Vietnamese government offices.
8. Assist in recruitment of local staff for HAIVN in Hanoi.

- Deputy Medical Director (Hanoi based)
- Medical Director (HCMC based)

Qualifications
1. MD degree.
2. Advanced training in internal medicine and/or infectious diseases with good clinical experience.
3. Experience in HIV treatment preferred.
4. Excellent writing, organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
5. Flexibility and demonstrated competence to assess priorities, manage a variety of activities in a time-sensitive environment, and meet competing deadlines with attention to detail and quality.
6. Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member in a complex and fast-paced environment.
7. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse patients, staff, and consultants.
8. Fluency in oral and written Vietnamese and English.
