Public Health Program Coordinator

Background:
Glocal Ventures, Inc. (GVI) is a US-based INGO that has been working in Vietnam since 2007. GVI’s primary mission is to mobilize short-term volunteers to participate in humanitarian and development projects in Hanoi and Lao Cai province. GVI has a broad range of projects in areas such as medicine, orphanage support, water & sanitation, education and microfinance.

To date, GVI has mobilized medical professional in fields such as pediatric ophthalmology, family medicine, neo-natal nursing and gerontology to train and build capacity at our partner institutions in Hanoi. We have an ongoing partnership with the Vietnam Institute of Opthalmology and have emerging relationships with Chuong My District Hospital and Nam Dinh Nursing University.

GVI would like to deepen our volunteer engagement and involvement in our projects, therefore we are seeking a qualified Vietnamese national to serve as our Public Health Project Officer.

Position based in: Hanoi

Job Summary:
The primary role of this position is to design and monitor an effective medical volunteer program by working closely with Vietnamese medical institutions and with US medical volunteers. The Program Coordinator will ensure effective project implementation and achievement of project objectives in close coordination with partners. S/he will work with the Project Director to provide direct support (human resources, equipment donations etc). to local partners. S/he will be responsible for project implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all on-going activities.

Main Duties:
- Design medical volunteer program in cooperation with Vietnamese medical institutions and US volunteers
- Maintain close communication and effective liaison between GVI and local partners, volunteers, and other relevant stake-holders
- Provide guidance to partners in the use of the PCM (Project Cycle Management) approach in project planning, implementation, monitoring and documentation
- Provide accurate and timely reporting and perform regular monitoring of projects
- Accompany and assist visiting international volunteers to participate in the project, provide translation and interpretation (English-Vietnamese) when necessary
- Expand and development that project scope by identifying new program strategies and approaches

Qualifications:   
- University degree in a medical discipline. Further training and higher credentials in community development, project management and/or public health are an advantage
- 2-4 years of experience in the Public Health sector (experience at an INGO preferred)
- Organized, self-motivated, flexible, has initiative and can work under pressure
- Strong communication skills; confidence in dealing with people of diverse cultural, professional and religious backgrounds; able to work in and contribute to a team atmosphere
- Strong oral/written English skills
- Ability and willingness to travel
