Red River Reaches Its Lowest Water Level

The Red River plummeted to a record low water level of 0.66m at 1am on Tuesday, breaking the previous record of 0.76m which was set just over 107 years ago. Low rainfalls, a short rainy season and water storage at hydroelectricity plants were the main reasons for the record-low, said an officer at the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) was asked to release water to ensure a water level of 2.2m in the river to serve agriculture cultivation.
