Research and Advocacy Manager

Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) is a national NGO which inherits CIDSE’s 28 years of experience working in the field of poverty alleviation in Vietnam. We empower disadvantaged communities in rural and mountainous areas to sustainably manage their own livelihood systems, regardless of ethnic group, gender or religious belief. SRD currently focuses on sustainable
agriculture, rural livelihoods, climate change, local governance and pro-poor policy advocacy.
They are currently in search of one qualified candidate to fill the position of Research and Advocacy Manager, based in Hanoi with frequent travels to the project sites. SRD offers good opportunities for working, learning and sharing within the dynamic Team of SRD.

Overall Responsibilities:
1. Take lead in development of SRD’s research and advocacy activities as per SRD’s strategic plan;
2. Draw up implementation plan for action research and advocacy activities;
3. Design and provide leadership and management oversight to research and advocacy activities to reach projects’ targeted objectives;
4. Provide inputs into reports; present and create documentation of research outcomes in order to popularize related information and results;
5. Work in close consultation with Executive Director and Deputy Director, and other program officers to prepare presentations and represent SRD at all related national and international conferences/networks;
6. Undertake financial management for all research and advocacy related programs;
7. Provide guidance and training courses for other program officers to carry out research activities to reach projects’objectives;
8. Provide assistance to program officers in terms of action research and advocacy; and develop implemetation plan for program unit;
9. Administratively manage all staff under research and advocacy unit;
10. Create a network of partnership with other organizations to share information in the related field;
11. Build up relationship with potential partners and donors;
12. Undertake other tasks/duties as required by the Executive Director

Qualification and competencies required:
- Master degree or post degree in agricultural, economics or social sciences, or equivalent qualification;
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of NGO’s action research and advocacy;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in research management, analysis and advocacy
Experience in managing large scale action research projects with multiple actors in a broad range of areas
- Excellent analytical and research skills;
- Excellent communication (both spoken and written) and interpersonal skills;
- Willing to travel to project sites of SRD as required
- Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadline;
- Excellent English, both written and spoken;
- Good computer skills in Microsoft Words, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer.
- Having previous experience of working for a non-government organization (NGO) at the same position preferred;
Remuneration:
Net income would be from $900 - $1,500 per month depending on qualifications and competitiveness.
