Standard Chartered to Grant $630,000 More to Vietnam Blindness Prevention

Standard Chartered Bank said Mar. 23 that it will grant $630,000 more to the Vietnam urban childhood blindness prevention project. The three-year project, to be funded through the Fred Hollows Foundation, is aimed at improving the quality of eye care services for children aged less than 15 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh cities. The bank’s official and Hanoi authorities signed an agreement on the grant in Hanoi on Mar. 23 in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan. The project is expected to benefit one million Vietnamese children, eye surgeries for 300 children and medical glasses for 20,000 others, Nhan noted. The bank has granted $1.5 million for blindness prevention activities in Vietnam since 2003.
