Third Annual Talks on Vietnam - U.S. Tertiary Education Opens in Hanoi

As many as 250 educational experts from the U.S. and Vietnam are gathering at the third annual conference on Vietnam-U.S. tertiary education cooperation held in Hanoi from Jan 14-16.
“Vietnam looks forward to supports from the U.S. government and universities to help it establish standard universities to meet the demand for quality human resources,” the Vietnamese Government said on its website Jan 14, citing Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan.
The Deputy PM also underlined the significance of higher education and urged Vietnamese and U.S. experts to discuss and exchange experiences on the issue.
Michael Michalak, the U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam, pledged to increase educational cooperation with Vietnam to help the country build up higher educational programs and provide modern training curriculums.
The sides are also working on a plan to build the first U.S. University in Vietnam, the ambassador added.
Vietnam had around 13,000 students in the U.S. in the 2008-2009 academic year, ranking the ninth among ten countries and territories having most students in the country.
From now until 2020, the U.S. will help Vietnam train 2,500 lecturers with doctorate degrees and upgrade school facilities.
