Trung Son Hydropower Project - Calling for NGO Participation on Public Consultations as Observers

Trung Son Hydropower Project is planned to locate on the Ma River in Thanh Hoa Province in northwestern Vietnam. Trung Son is a multipurpose project, providing both power generation and flood control benefits. Expected power generation capacity is 260MW, and flood control storage amounts to about 112 million m3 . Initial plans include a concrete dam which would create a reservoir of some 150 million cubic meters and covering an area of about 13 square kilometers. The dam, its reservoir and access road will affect a total of about 1,650 households and 6,000 people in six communes in Hoa Binh, Son La and Thanh Hoa provinces.

Trung Son Hydropower Project Management Board is planning to meet again with local people affected by the project to in November and December 2009 to discuss on resettlements and other related issues of the project.
