Vietnam, Cambodia Firms Start to Build $42M Hospital

Saigon Medical Investment JSC of Vietnam and Sokimex Co. of Cambodia kicked off the construction of Cho Ray - Phnom Penh General Hospital May 15. Covering a site of 50,000 sq.m in Meanchey district, ten km from Phnom Penh, the hospital has two five-storey buildings with 500 sick-beds, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said. Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong said this is part of the contents of a business conference held in December 2009. Once operational, the hospital will help improve health care services for Phnom Penh city’s dwellers and Cambodian people, Trong added. In return, Cambodian PM Hun Sen appreciated the cooperation of the Vietnamese government and Ho Chi Minh City authorities in the project. The project is expected to be completed in the next two years and employ more than 300 workers.
