Vietnam Capital City Approves $31.42M Wastewater Treatment Project

Authorities of Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi have approved a project worth VND600 billion ($31.42 million) to build a wastewater treatment station with the capacity of 15,000 cubic meters a day. The facility, covering on 16,088 square meters in Tay Ho district’s Nhat Tan ward, is expected for completion in 2012, the An Ninh Thu Do newspaper reported July 22. The project aims to improve water environment in the West Lake in a bid to promote tourism and entertainment activities of locals. Residents, companies and hospitals in Hanoi discharge nearly 458,000 cubic meters of wastewater a day, of which 41% of the volume is domestic wastewater, 57% industrial wastewater and 2% medical one.
