Vietnam Debuts Biggest Book on Ethnic People

The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) has made debut a book on Central Highlands epics, the biggest of its kind so far, in a bid to protect the intangible culture of ethnic people. The book titled Treasure Trove of Central Highlands Epics gathers 75 epics which were selected from 622 items discovered in 1,000 villages in the Central Highlands for many year, the Vietnam News Agency said. The 62-volumes book is published bilingually in ethnic language and Vietnamese. The book has set the Vietnam record for the biggest epic work and nominated for the UNESCO’s Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Scholars from Japan, India, Malaysia, Thailand and China were surprised at how voluminous the book was. Vietnam has 388 artists who can sing and tell stories and epics of ethnic people.
