Vietnam Farmers Urged to Promote Organic Farming

Farmers and retailers are encouraged to adopt the Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) guidelines in efforts to promote organic farming and consumption of safe farm produce in Vietnam, a seminar in Hanoi Nov 10 heard. The seminar on the development of PGS, the fourth of its kind, was co-held by the Vietnam Farmers’ Association and the Agricultural Development Denmark Asia (ADDA) organization. ADDA experts introduced participants, including organic farmers, representatives of markets, shops, businesses, and goods distributors, to the benefits they can receive from participating in PGS. In Vietnam, 141 farmers in nine provinces and cities have participated in the PGS development project that aims to produce purely organic products for the market as part of endeavors to ensure food hygiene for consumers.
