Vietnam Finds Melon Seeds Containing Carcinogenic Agent

Food safety inspectors in Vietnam’s central city of Danang found melon seeds offered for sale in Ha market, Hai Chau district containing a carcinogenic agent named Rhodamine B, the Sai gon Giai phong newspaper reported Dec. 10. The product was made by Tan Phat Trade Co. Ltd in Phu Logn town, Ham Thuan Bac district of central Binh Thuan province. Local food safety authorities took the seed back, the newspaper reported. Vietnamese people often use melon seeds as a food in festivals and weddings.
