Vietnam Gov’t Approves Project on Upbringing Knowledge for 5M Mothers

The Vietnamese Prime Minister has approved a five-year project on providing upbringing knowledge for five million of mothers of children below 16 years old, the government said on its website.  The project aims to reduce malnutrition, diseases and adolescent crimes, the government said, but giving no details of the project’s cost.  The project will be carried out in 14 provinces for the first phase from 2010 to 2012 and expanded nationwide in the second phase which will end in 2015. A survey by local psychologists showed that up to 80% of Vietnamese children aging below 6 are yet equipped with living skills.  Doctor Ngo Thanh Hoi from Mai Huong Psychiatric Hospital said that Vietnam teenagers get easy to lose their temper, feel inferiority complex, depression and even commit suicide as majority of them lack living skills. Meanwhile, Doctor Kim Quy attributed the rising adolescent violence and crime cases to the lack of soft skills.
