Vietnam Govt Approves VND1.2T to Upgrade Mekong Delta Canal

The Vietnamese Government has approved a VND1.2 trillion ($65 million) project to upgrade Xang Xa No canal in Mekong Delta region to cope with the negative impacts of climate change. Xang Xa No canal plays an important role in agricultural development in Mekong delta provinces An Giang, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau and Can Tho, the Ha Noi Moi newspaper reported. The 40-km canal provides fresh water for 40,000 hectares agricultural lands. It is also a very important transport way for the region. Besides upgrading of Xang Xa No canal, many dike-upgrading projects are implementing in Mekong Delta region to prevent sea water.
