Vietnam Has 1.7M Tons of Rice in Stock

Vietnam has a stockpile of 1.7 million tons of rice, highest in the recent years, sufficient to meet the domestic demand and for export, the Sai gon Giai phong newspaper reported Wednesday, citing Nguyen Thanh Bien, deputy minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Bien was quoted by the newspaper as saying that Vietnamese enterprises have 1.45 million tons of rice in stock at the end of Nov., and total stockpile of rice in 2009 is estimated at 1.7 million tons, much larger than 800,000 tons in the same period last year.
By the end of November, Vietnam exported 5.7 million tons of rice and it is estimated to ship 6 million tons in 2009, Bien said and added that Vietnam will deliver rice to the Philippines in many shipments to avoid negative impacts on the domestic market.
