Vietnam HCM City Building Plans to Cope with Climate Change

Mayor of Ho Chi Minh City Le Hoang Quan has asked its climate change prevention steering committee to complete its action plans to mitigate the impacts of climate change in the first half of this year. Mayor Quan also asked the Department of Planning and Investment to pay more attention to climate change while developing construction and investment projects. The municipal Department of Transport and Public Works should strengthen focus on developing public transport systems, including the metro and promote energy saving projects, while the Department of Natural Resources and Environment should improve waste management in the city.  HCM City, listed among the 10 cities that are the most vulnerable to climate change, will spend VND200 billion ($11.2 million) for a project to cope with by 2012.
