Vietnam HCM City Hosts Regional Conference on HIV/AIDS Surveillance

A workshop titled “Updates and Best Practices in Second Generation HIV/AIDS Surveillance: The Asia Experience” is taking place in Ho Chi Minh City from Mar 1-5 with the participation of experts from 14 regional nations. The event, following the first in Shanghai in 2007, is co-organized by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state media reported March 4. PEPFAR has provided $400 million for HIV/AIDS prevention activities in Vietnam since 2004.  Vietnam is now estimated to have 156,000 people living with HIV/AIDS. The country also reported 44,230 deaths of the disease.
