Vietnam Loses $8.6B due to Water Leakages Yearly

Vietnam is estimated to lose VND165 trillion ($8.6 billion) due to water leakages a year, the Dat Viet newspaper reported. The Southeast Asian nation invests thousands of billions of dong to upgrade water supply systems a year. However, only 70% of dwellers in urban areas have clean water. The Ministry of Construction is seeking approval from the government for a plan to fund VND4.384 trillion ($229.5 million) for the water sector to reduce the leakage. Vietnam expects to reduce the water leakage rate to 10% by 2025, down from the current figure of 30%.
