Vietnam PM to Attend UN Climate Change Conference in Denmark

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung who will arrive in Copenhagen this month to attend an UN conference on climate change affirmed Vietnam will strive to contribute to the conference’s success. The Vietnamese leader made the statement while receiving Danish Ambassador Peter Lysholt Hansen Nov 30 in Hanoi, the Communist Party of Vietnam said on its website Dec 1. Vietnam will take measures to cope with climate change and rising sea levels at the global event, Dung told the guest. The Vietnamese PM proposed the international community should build a special program to support developing nations which are the most vulnerable to the climate change. PM Dung hopes Denmark will continue supporting Vietnam in projects involved in climate change, wind energy and medical waste treatment.  Leaders of Commonwealth nations announced last weekend that a legally binding climate accord was essential and they backed the December 7-18 Copenhagen negotiations to draft another treaty to replace the Kyoto Protocol.
