Vietnam PM Calls for Greater Efforts to Deal with Climate Change

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked ministries and agencies to continue updating climate forecasts and have an overall plan for irrigation, hydropower plants, transport and forests to cope with climate change. At a meeting to review the one-year implementation of the national target program to respond climate change in Hanoi Dec. 7, the PM also asked media agencies to help raise public awareness of climate change and rising sea levels. Since the program was launched last year, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has worked together with ministries to build and publish scenarios of climate change and sea level rise for the country.  Vietnam will need VND1.965 trillion ($106.3 million) for the program to fight against climate change by 2015.
