Vietnam PM Oks $49.23M to Build Rescue Roads

The Vietnamese Prime Minister has decided to advance VND960 billion ($49.23 million) from the state budget to carry out rescue road projects for flood-prone areas between 2011 and 2015. The project will build 123 rescue roads in 30 provinces and cities nationwide, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported Oct 26. The two consecutive floods have left 165 dead and missing, 117 injured in the central region since early this month. The General Statistics Office (GSO)’s statistics showed natural disasters caused damages of VND1.8 trillion to Vietnam and left 110 dead and missing between Jan and Sept. (Tuoi Tre-Youth Oct 26 p2)
