Vietnam Police Seize 1.2 Tons of Illegally-transported Wildlife Animals

Police forces in Vietnam’s central province of Quang Binh July 8 seized 1.2 tons of wildlife animals, including indotestudo elongate, heosemys annandalii and copperhead illegally transported from South to North for consumption. On the same day, the local authorities captured 59 varans with a combined weight of 64kg, the Cong an Nhan dan newspaper reported Friday. Earlier, Quang Binh province also seized 1.4 tons of illegally-transported tortoise which is considered as the biggest-ever tortoise trafficking case in the province. Only 20% of the wildlife trafficking cases in the Southeast Asian country is found, according to reports by state media.
