Vietnam Province Operates Japan-funded Vocational Training School

Vietnam’s northern province of Ha Nam has operated a vocational training school with the funding of $87,000 from the Japanese government. The school will help train 1,000 female workers per year, the Thanh Nien newspaper reported Dec. 11. At present, 59% of Ha Nam’s manpower works in the agricultural sector. Around 10,000 local female workers need vocational training in the 2007-2010 period, according to the provincial statistics. The Japanese government has so far helped build 256 primary schools in 17 provinces in flood-prone areas and four mountainous northern provinces. At present, about 2,800 Vietnamese students are studying in Japan. Japan is one of the biggest donors of official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam.
