Vietnam Province Seeks to Boost Medical Human Resources

Local authorities will upgrade the Nha Trang Medical College to the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vice Mayor Vo Lam Phi was quoted by the Thanh Nien newspaper as saying Oct 28. The province will also offer incentives for medical students to encourage them to work at local health centers after graduation. The provincial Department of Health estimates to need nearly 948 doctors and pharmacists serving for public hospitals, compared the current number of 631, Phi said. Vietnam is forecast to need VND10 trillion to expand intensive health operation, VND100 trillion to upgrade provincial hospitals and between VND5 trillion and VND10 trillion to train medical workers in the next few years.
