Vietnam Saves over 500,000 kWh of Electricity during Earth Hour 2010

Vietnam saved more than 500,000 kWh of electricity during the “Earth Hour 2010”, the state-run Vietnam News Agency cited the National Electricity Dispatching Center as saying Mar. 29. The result came after a mass switch off between 8:30 am and 9:30 am in 20 cities and provinces nationwide, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, on Mar. 28. HCM City saved 67,000 kWh of power during this year’s Earth Hour, the center said. Last year, Vietnam saved 140,000 kWh of power during the event. Earth Hour is a campaign initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to respond to the global climate change. It was first implemented in Sydney in 2007 and soon became an international event.  This is the second time Vietnam takes part in the campaign. The Southeast Asian country is listed among five hardest-hit by climate change countries.
