Vietnam to Spend $559,221 for Teachers’ Allowance Next Year

Vietnam will spend VND10 billion ($559,221) on allowances for teachers next year, the Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper reported Dec. 10, citing a senior official. Le Van Hoc, vice chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam’s Culture, Education, Youth, Children and Infants Committee confirmed the information at a conference in Hanoi on Dec 9. The funding is still modest, Hoc noted, warning that more and more teachers will have to do other jobs for higher income. Vietnam now has 1.5 million teachers. The country budgets VND67 trillion ($3.63 billion) for the education and training sector this year, up 10.1% from 2008.
