Vietnam Warned of Rising Crimes among Students in 2005-2008

Vietnam reported more than 8,000 students who violated the criminal law in the 2005-2008 period, which rings an alarming bell with the whole society, state media reported Thursday. Of the figure, 2,000 was charged on causing the social orders; 815 were involved in drug trafficking rings; 83 were murderers and more than 1,372 were property robbers, the Ha Noi Moi newspaper reported Thursday, citing a conference held in Hanoi on Nov 25. Wrong behaviors and lifestyles among students are a thorny issue, said Head of the Department for Students’ Affairs under the Ministry of Education and Training, Phung Khac Binh, adding that agencies and schools must join hands in dealing with the problem. According to statistics from the local police force, around 20,000 young people had dropped out of school and are living as wanderers.
