SNV Vietnam is looking for a Senior Advisor/Advisor

This position is subject to donor approval (Consultancy contract)

SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+.

SNV is seeking qualified, senior professionals in Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Renewable Energy (RE), Agriculture, Reducing Emission from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) for our potential candidate database which will be input for human resources of our bidding proposals.

1. Renewable Energy (RE)

The SNV Vietnam Renewable Energy team has projects mainly focusing on biomass to energy solutions for rural households and farmers in Vietnam. The Award winning National Biogas program for rural farmers is the most well know project of the Renewable Energy team, nevertheless there are also projects focusing on Improved Cookstoves, Gasification of rice residues, biomass densification, larger scale biogas solutions and more. RE Consultancy assignments are also now an essential part of our portfolio.

Name of demanding position: Renewable Energy Advisor(s) on all levels (junior, mid-level and Senior).

Candidate profile:

  • Master degree in rural development, renewable energy or related subjects plus a minimum of 1 year relevant work experiencein implementing or managing field projects
  • Or Bachelor degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experiencein implementing or managing field projects
  • Sound and proven knowledge of renewable energy technology especially bioenergy, biogas and potentially solar
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
  • Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)

For the mid-level and more senior positions the following additional requirements are an advantage:

  • Experience in Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) / Rural Enterprise business development and/or value chain development
  • Extensive network in international Biogas / Renewable Energy community
  • Experience in donor (financial) reporting and establishing good working relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience in project design, implementation and evaluation
  • Experience in proposals development is an advantage;

2. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

Name of demanding position: Program and Project Manager, WASH Advisors (junior, mid-level and Senior)

Overview of responsibilities of this position.

Candidate profile:

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline;
  • Proven abilities in managing development projects in WASH;
  • A proactive and entrepreneurial individual with vast experience in team management;
  • Proven capacity to work with teams operating at a distance;
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills and experience working in a matrix organisation;
  • Excellent (English) communication (written and oral), reporting and presentation skills

For the mid-level and more senior positions the following additional requirements are an advantage:

  • At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible work experience in rural sanitation (CLTS, sanitation marketing and innovative hygiene promotion);
  • Extensive network in the WASH sector,
  • Experience in donor (financial) reporting and establishing good working relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience in project design, technical and financial implementation, evaluation and knowledge management, Experience in proposals development is an advantage

3. Agriculture

SNV is engaged in the agriculture sector implementing Sustainable Markets, Inclusive Business and Climate Smart Agriculture programmes and projects.  SNV is working from a market-based approach including sustainable crop production in value chains like rice, coffee, cassava, pepper, tea, spices and aquaculture; among others. As a part of these mechanisms SNV creates and support market linkages among small farmers and private sector companies, including commodity traders, food processors and/or agribusiness. Finally, addressing the challenges of climate change in the agriculture sector it’s also part of our expertise, including the most advanced tools and methodologies. At the same time, an important component of this approach is to scale-up and leverage social impact through national, provincial and local partnerships in the public sector.

Name of demanding position: Agriculture Sector Advisor(s) on all levels (junior, mid-level and Senior).

Candidate profile:

  • Master degree in rural development, agriculture sciences, economics, other related to the agriculture sector
  • Or Bachelor degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experiencein implementing or managing field projects
  • Sound and proven knowledge in the agriculture sector, value chains and market-based methodologies
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
  • Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)

For the mid-level and more senior positions the following additional requirements are an advantage:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience in the agriculture sector, value chains and market-based methodologies, working with private sector companies, traders, food processors and agribusiness.
  • Extensive network in the agriculture sector, especially in areas like market-based value chain development, climate smart agriculture, certification and standards, sustainable crop production, public private partnerships, private sector development, business development services
  • Experience in donor (financial) reporting and establishing good working relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience in project design, technical and financial implementation, evaluation and knowledge management,
  • Experience in proposals development is an advantage

4. Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+)

SNV is working on REDD+ across 14 countries in Asia and Africa. The goal of the REDD+ programme is to support a REDD+ mechanism, which benefits the poor and helps to protect biodiversity.

The projects SNV work on include supporting the protection of forests by providing incentives for communities to manage these resources; as well as piloting and introducing REDD+ compatible solutions in those sectors driving deforestation and forest degradation, namely the Agriculture and Renewable Energy sectors. SNV established the REDD+ Energy and Agriculture Programme (REAP) to advance understanding of the interface between agriculture and energy use across different forest landscapes in order to support low emission, pro-poor development pathways.

Name of demanding position: REDD+ Advisor (s)

Candidate profile:

  • Academic degree the fields of forestry, environmental management, natural resources management or agriculture as a minimum requirement
  • Minimum 8 years of proven track record in forestry
  • Good knowledge of REDD+
  • Extensive experience working with forestry and environmental institutions in Vietnam
  • Knowledge of forest resource inventory and monitoring systems in Vietnam Strategic thinking and ability to capitalize on unforeseen opportunities
  • Ability to integrate knowledge with broad strategic, policy and operational objectives
  • Familiarity with strategic environment assessment policy and practice in Vietnam
  • Good communication skills, especially in communicating with various partners at various levels
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and collegiate team work spirit
  • Good command in Vietnamese and English
  • Computer literacy on MS software.
