Advocacy & Consumer Coordinator

VECO Vietnam is one of the 8 regional and country offices in Africa, Latin America and Asia of Vredeseilanden, a Belgian NGO for assistance in development.  VECO Vietnam wants to contribute to viable livelihoods of organized family farmers. We choose family farmers as the starting point in the pursuit of our vision and mission. We carry out our program through sustainable agriculture chain development (SACD).

They are looking for a dynamic and motivated Vietnamese national for the position of Advocacy & Consumer Coordinator. The incumbent will be based in Hanoi with frequent travel up to 50% of working time (1 or 2 times international travel per year).

Purpose: S/he will lead and coordinate programming and implementation of the advocacy and consumer components of the VECO Program in Vietnam, and its linkage with organizational learning objective.

Report to: SACD Program Manager

Main responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the advocacy and consumers strategy of VECO Program in Vietnam in coordination with management and field staff.
- Integrate SACD-related issues from the field in VECO’s advocacy campaigns and initiatives;
- Consolidate field evidences from program partners and link them to advocacy and learning initiatives at the national and regional levels;
- Support Field  Project Coordinators in advocacy & consumer education at the local level;
- Coordinate capacity building of  partners on advocacy;
- Organize platforms and/or processes for multi-stakeholder dialogues at the local, provincial and/or national levels for advocacy initiatives;
- Link VECO Vietnam’s advocacy strategy with Vredeseilanden’s Global Advocacy Program;
- Where appropriate, mainstream VECO’s transversal themes (gender, intercultural equity, participation and HIV/Aids) in its advocacy program;

Requirements:
- Masters degree or equivalent in (Sustainable) agriculture, (Development/Agricultural) economics or Development Studies or Law
- At least 5 years experience in agricultural and rural development programs, including 3-5 years in advocacy work at local and national levels on the agriculture sector; experience at the international level an advantage.
- Good understanding of political situation, legal and institutional framework in Vietnam
- Good understanding and experience on sustainable agriculture and market chain development
- Experience in a leading position in development cooperation
- Program development, design formulation and management
- Ability to manage, coach and motivate a team
- Very good working knowledge of English, both spoken and written
- Knowledge of strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation methods
