Agri-Business Support Officer

Agriterra (www.agriterra.org) is a Dutch agency that aims to professionalize farmers'organizations and cooperatives worldwide, with advice from experts from the Dutch agricultural sector. Agriterra’ s opinion is that strong farmers' organizations and cooperatives lead to more participation, economic growth and a better distribution of income. Agriterra focus on economic development and work closely together with the Dutch agribusiness.

Agriterra cooperate with farmers’ organizations and cooperatives, professionalizing their functioning and service provision to their members, where the members want to increase their productivity and income, their position in the markets, access to finance and to add value to their products.

Agriterra registered in Vietnam in December 2017 and currently active in Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Nam Dinh, Daklak, Quang Nam, Da Nang and Thua Thien Hue. We have ambition to expand in these provinces. We are looking for an experienced and dynamic national candidate to fill in position: Agri-Business support officer (fulltime employment contract), based in Danang Agriterra office with frequent travel to Green Annamite areas in Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue provinces.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, implementation, monitoring and report of the project:
    • Develop detailed work-plan with selected farmer groups and cooperatives in Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue
    • Closely work with partners/ clients to initiate and facilitate the implementation of work plan
    • Monitor the development and progress of activities
    • Produce the reports: mission, quarterly, mid-term, final evaluation reports…
  • To provide support to cooperatives on some of the following topics:
    • Busines Planning
    • Financial management
    • Production management (especially acacia/ rattan/ medicinal plants/ bee hives; handicraft)
    • Marketing and branding
    • Value chain development
    • Public engagement and legal affairs
  • To liaise directly with provincial, district and commune authorities as well as client level – farmers’ organization, cooperatives and farmer groups.

Expected results:

  • Result-driven agribusiness support that helps to increase income of the farmers groups/ cooperatives and at the same time contribution to sustainable landscape
  • improvement in Green Annamites areas.
  • Support on improvement of the clients’ (agribusiness) institution, position on the market and growth ambition.

Candidate profile

  • Formal education (or experience) in Business Administration/ Business Planning/Marketing and branding
  • Knowledge on acacia; rattan, honey bee; handicaft and medicinal plants is an advantage
  • Experience with farmer-led enterprises, farmer cooperatives is an advantage
  • Experience in project implementation.
  • Experience in working with international donors (preferably USAID) and local partners.
  • Fluent in Vietnamese and English
  • Experience in advising and training people, achieving lasting results
  • Flexible (no 9-5 mentality), able and willing to frequent travel
  • Diplomatic skills to develop partnership with governmental and business entities
  • Demonstrable experience in client-friendly and result-oriented service provision
  • Respectful and patient attitude, pro-active, convincing and target-driven
  • Self-geared (able and willing to work independently)
  • Generalist: eager to learn other topics and expand skills

Contract Duration:

The selected candidates will be offered initially for one-year employment contract with two months’ probation time and possibility of extension subject to availability of funds.

The position gives the selected candidate many opportunities for promotion within the organisation if growth of the program will develop as expected.
