RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Animals Asia is an international animal welfare charity founded by Dr. Jill Robinson MBE in 1998. It is devoted to the needs of wild, domesticated and endangered species throughout Asia and dedicated to ending cruelty and restoring respect for all animals. In Vietnam, Animals Asia is collaborating with Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development to establish a world class Vietnam Bear Rescue Centres in Tam Dao National Park, Vinh Phuc Province and in Bach Ma National Park, Hue province. We are also working in partnership with other governmental agencies to provide animal management advice and staff training to optimize the welfare of animals at their facilities as well as organizing activities to raise public awareness about general animal welfare.

Animals Asia is recruiting a Vietnamese national for the full time Animal Welfare Education Officer position to be based in Dak Lak province. This is a unique opportunity to work and significantly contribute to a programme that aims to protect the declining elephant population in Vietnam, to develop high standards of care for captive wild animals formerly used within the tourism industry, and ultimately stop the abuse of elephants, and other wildlife species, used in tourism.

Position: Animal Welfare Education Officer

Direct report: Dak Lak Operation Manager

Location: Dak Lak province, with domestic travels as the work required.

Term: Two-year contract with initial 2 months probationary period.

Salary: 600 USD gross per month + benefits.

Key Duties

  • Develop and deliver a programme of educational activities to:
    • broaden the public perception of elephants and to develop support for ending the use of elephants in riding tourism;
    • broaden the public perception of macaques and develop support to end the keeping of macaques as pets
  • Coordinate a programme of animal welfare training for education professionals;
  • In collaboration with education professionals:
    • develop resources for teachers/educators to deliver animal welfare concepts
    • develop and maintain an online AW platform for resource access
  • Organise administrative activities related to the project;
  • Provide assistance to the Animal welfare team and other Animals Asia’s staff in the delivery of other programme areas including social media activities and campaigns
  • Support requests from other departments within Animals Asia
  • Support the department in maintaining collaborations with Animal protection NGOs and university groups
  • Liaise with local authorities, relevant community groups and other organisations for activities related to the programmes.

Qualifications

  • University graduated;
  • Good verbal and written English translation;
  • Self-motivated and independent with ability to work under difficult conditions;
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills, confident and attention to details;
  • Good understanding of NGO’s works;
  • Devoted to the cause of animal protection and animal welfare;
  • Proficient skills of computer, social media, graphic design and web-based applications;
  • Good teamwork spirit;
  • Educational or professional background in animal welfare and related fields are preferred;
