The Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Programme (MCRP) (2019-2021) is the development program that is funded by the governments of Viet Nam and Germany and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Its objective is to support the Vietnamese authorities on their path for a sustainable development of the Mekong Delta through the climate-resilient management of natural resources along the coast.

MCRP will focus on three working areas:

  1. Governance support for national level and 13 Mekong Delta provinces: Support the establishment of an institutional framework for regional coordination in the Mekong Delta
  2. Investment policy for national level and 13 Mekong Delta provinces: Support the improvement of investment planning and coordination for a climate-resilient and gender-sensitive land and water use management incl. coastal protection for the Mekong Delta
  3. Technology and Solutions for seven coastal provinces and An Giang province of the Mekong Delta to intensify the use of innovative and climate-adapted technologies and solutions.

MCRP has a comprehensive workplan focused on three key areas: land-use and agriculture, water and regional coordination in the Mekong Delta. To effectively carry out activities for regional coordination and agriculture additional human resources are required.

The Program is looking for a local qualified candidate to fill the following position:

Aquaculture Project Officer “MCRP”

Duty Station: Can Tho City, Viet Nam

Duration: ASAP in 2019 until 31 December 2021 with possible extension

Main responsibilities:

  • Providing technical support for aquaculture activities and further developing sustainable aquaculture
  • Promote the public-private-partnership with the objective to improve aquaculture quality and farmers’ incomes, and market linkages and enhance the capacity of farmer cooperatives
  • Providing support for design and capacity development measures for aquaculture farmers (trainings, workshops and others)
  • Support the project team in the planning and preparation of events, workshops and field trips
  • Providing support for implementing project activities at field level
  • Responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the project activities
  • Maintaining a good flow of communication and information between all involved stakeholders
  • Providing other support if required (e.g. translation).

Minimum requirements:

  • University graduation degree in aquaculture, aquatic biology or equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge of aquaculture production technologies and farming process
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge and at least 3-5 years of experience on shrimp aquaculture in the Mekong Delta
  • Experience in executive functions in private & public sector
  • Impact of climate change, climate smart aquaculture, sustainable use of natural resources at community level, coastal ecosystem
  • Practical knowledge of international and national standards on aquaculture and quality standards would be an asset.
  • Good skills in English language, in speaking, reading and report writing
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related computer-based software, phone, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
