Art-Based Facilitator

The Center for Sustainable Development Studies (CSDS) is a Vietnamese non-profit organization legally registered in 2009. CSDS is promoting education for sustainable development with a strong emphasis on youth empowerment and community support.  Volunteering is a key component of the organization’s focus, and volunteers provide a valuable resource for the delivery of its programmes and projects. Besides hundreds of international volunteers, CSDS is also supporting the growth of local volunteer groups (SDC, Ha Noi Du, Pioneer Fish, etc) who are also able to engage a large number of local youth in community service.

Position/ Job Descriptions

CSDS is looking for a capable art-based facilitator or a creative arts group who can facilitate innovative ways of portraying youth, including their thinking, their interests, their behaviour, etc. during the 02 months of Exploration Lab

Specific tasks of the facilitator are:

• To guide/facilitate the process & come up with innovative ways of capturing the lives of the youth.
• To work with a small group of identified youth (10 -15 young people) who have a network of youth around them, to explore where and how to get other youth motivated and interested to come and share their stories and ideas.
• To implement and follow up with creative arts-based activities in a visual medium designed for capturing youth.
• To produce the reports in both English and Vietnamese, upon completion of the service.

Requirements of facilitator (qualification)

• Conceptual skills: ability to conceptualise images, thoughts, experiences and impressions in a visual format
• Technical skills: familiarity with a range of visual art mediums (e.g. sketching, drawing, painting, collage, mosaics, sculpture, dance, drama, mime, puppetry, photography, video animation etc.)
• Previous experience in arts-based field, preferably in a professional capacity
• Flexibility in being to adapt the process and create visually attractive art from the initial development stage to the final product
• Interest in working with young people and engaging youth as active agents in the project
• Previous experience in group work and facilitating groups is desirable
• Proven knowledge, understandings on and insights of Youth Rights, gender, women’s rights and ethnic minority issues in Vietnam
• Solid experiences in working with different stakeholders including government, civil society organizations, and communities;
