Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) is an independent, non-profit organization, based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, which works with European clothing companies and factories in production countries to improve labour conditions for garment workers. FWF’s 90 member companies represent over 120 brands, and are based in several European countries. Member companies of FWF work towards improving the labour conditions in factories and workshops where the ‘cut-make-trim’ stage takes place. The basis of the collaboration between FWF and a member is the Code of Labour Practices, which consists of eight labour standards. FWF verifies whether companies comply with FWF’s Code of Labour Practices, through factory audits and a complaints procedure, through yearly brand performance checks at the member companies’ headquarters and through stakeholder consultation in production countries. Job Description:

Fair Wear Foundation is looking for a new audit team member in the role of Workers Interviewer that could support the work of FWF in Vietnam, and based in Hanoi.

FWF works with locally recruited auditors. As a team, FWF auditor gather information about working conditions in garment factories based on different sources of information. 

FWF audit team consists of an occupational health and safety inspector, a document inspector and a worker interviewer. 

FWF teams assess five primary sources of information about compliance with the FWF Code of Labour Practices and on communication, consultation and grievance procedures:

  1. Interviews with factory management and staff;
  2. Interviews with factory workers;
  3. Interviews with local stakeholders;
  4. Review of documents, especially those regarding employment, salaries and working time;
  5. Visual inspection, especially regarding occupational health and safety.

Audit team-member skills:

  • Have professional experience relevant in social auditing, health and safety at factories, social sciences, financial administration and preferably in the garment industry 
  • Be knowledgeable about internation labour standards, local labour law and regulations. Be knowledgeable on gender equally, discrimination and violence against women
  • Be familiar with social compliance situation and labour relations in the garment/textile industry
  • Be a good team player and have the social skills to interact with the different parties involved: management, workers, unions, NGOs and local authorities. They must be able to understand the views of both workers and management and have a balanced view of the interests that are at stake
  • Be able to communicate in local language and in English

Workers interviewer skills:

  • Have a thorough understanding of the local labour relations 
  • Have the social skills to easily relate to the workers, unions, NGOs and local authorities. She/he must also have a balanced view of the interests that are at stake 
  • Previous experience interacting with workers
  • Interpersonal communication and adaptation skills to adjust to the environment and different people

Commitment FWF invests in its auditors by providing trainings session and regular updates. Therefore, FWF will only select trainers who can perform the audits for at least one year.
