The British Embassy in Hanoi is part of a world-wide network of 230 posts representing British political, defence, economic, trade, and consular interests around the world.  We are currently looking to recruit a Business Environment and Trade Policy Officer – Grade B3(L). 

As a member of the Prosperity Team, the jobholder will be working with key decision-makers in the Government and the private sector to contribute to the development of the Vietnamese business environment and to stimulate better conditions for British companies to win business in Vietnam.

Main Functions

  • Lead the Embassy’s work on issues relating to the Vietnamese business environment, producing insightful and high quality analysis/reporting which highlights the impact on UK commercial interests.
  • Working with external stakeholders, devise and manage projects aimed at improving the capacity for sustainable economic growth in Vietnam.
  • Working closely with UKTI Trade & Investment colleagues, develop the embassy’s capacity in relation to trade policy and market access issues. Contribute to the development and implementation of a joined-up strategy to ensure that British business is well-placed to benefit from existing and future market opening, notably via a EU Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.
  • Maintain strategic overview of social trends in Vietnam, initiating work on those sectors/themes where the UK has experience to share and where there is potential to develop business partnerships over the medium/long term.

Requirements

Essential

  • A degree in Economics, Business, Law, Public Policy or a related field
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Vietnamese
  • Good drafting and reporting skills
  • Self-motivation, with the ability to think creatively and work strategically towards objectives
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office applications

Desirable

  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of the Vietnamese business environment and understanding of the needs of foreign businesses operating in Vietnam
  • Experience working with the Vietnamese government

The monthly salary for this position starts at US$ 1,236.
