Job Title:  Children’s Shelter Deputy Director
Reports to: US Children’s Shelter Director, US Board of Directors

Background: Friends of Hue Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable, non-profit tax-exempt, non-governmental organization (NGO/INGO). The primary mission of the foundation is to provide assistance to impoverished people and victims of natural disasters in Thua Thien Hue province of Central Vietnam. All staff and Board members of the Friends of Hue Foundation in the United States serve as unpaid volunteers.

In addition to providing excellent child-care, the Shelter focuses on education and creativity. As Children’s Shelter Deputy Director, you will be in charge of implementing clear and concise direction for the overall Shelter and individual cases.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Along with US Children Shelter Director and Board of Directors, initiate and execute short and long term strategy for Shelter, including yearly budget overview
Develop goals and objectives for the Shelter, which should be evaluated regularly at Board’s discretion
Submit weekly and monthly Shelter Reports to the Board
Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with local regulations.
Provide leadership in developing programs, organizational, and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plan and policies authorized by the Board.
Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the various fields relating to children’s education and development.
Maintain healthy relationships and network with local authorities, colleagues in the NGO sector
Represent the Children’s Shelter and Friends of Hue Foundation to agencies, government, and other organizations
Oversee all existing Shelter-related Programs, including implementation of new programs
Work closely with the housemothers on developing educational direction for each child of the Shelter, depending on each child’s interest and aptitude
Develop additional opportunities for each child, including extracurricular activities, scholarship or study abroad opportunities
Manage a seven-person staff and ensure satisfactory job performance from each
Hold weekly Shelter meetings
Evaluate yearly staff performance
Maintain a positive and encouraging living environment for the children
Develop personal, yet professional relationships with the children
Guide, motivate, and serve as role model for children
Have frequent and regular individual contact with the children
Work with Accountant in preparing Annual Budget
Work with Shelter Office Assistant to maintain Children’s Database
Create Outreach Program for Children who have graduated from the Shelter
Responsible for admitting and graduating Children from the Shelter. Admission process will include application, survey, and interview process.
Oversee yearly survey of economic status of children and family.

Qualifications:
University Degree in Social Work, Health, Economics, Communications, Education, or Foreign Language
Minimum 2 years working experience, particularly related to Children and Youth
Experience working with International NGOs
Ability to communicate, read, and write in both Vietnamese and English
Extensive cultural knowledge of both Vietnam and America
Great interpersonal skills, ability to communicate, delegate, and motivate
Capable computer literacy skills, ease using Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Internet, and additional Media skills desired
Positive, open-minded, and passionate about children’s education and empowerment
Good organization and time management skills essential
Pioneering and dynamic personality
