Communication Coordinator

Position summary
Reporting to the Vietnam Bar Federation (VBF) leaders, Head/Standing Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the VBF and the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) Long Term Advisor (LTA), the Communications Coordinator is responsible for assisting the VBF leaders in planning, organizing, directing and controlling the internal and external communications and public relations programs of the VBF supported by the Justice Partnership Program (JPP) and is the Editor of VBF website. The VBF is implementing JPP Component II, a multi-donor funding arrangement, which is supporting the VBF to fulfil its role as the national socio-professional organization of Vietnamese lawyers to represent and protect the legitimate rights and interest of lawyers and bar associations; exercise self-management as a lawyers’ organization nationwide; set standards for Vietnamese lawyers; improve conduct and professional skills of lawyers; and contribute to the development of society.

Position Responsibilities
The key functions of the Communications Coordinator are to:
- Coordinate with the VBF Secretariat and relevant units, under the guidance of the VBF leadership and in consultation with the CBA LTA, the development of detailed communications workplans for all VBF activities supported by the JPP.
- Coordinate, supervise and assist the VBF in the implementation of the communications activities as outlined in the workplans.

This will include:
- Assisting the VBF in development, implementation, control and evaluation of internal and external communications policies and programs as recommended by the Communications Strategy Steering Committee and the VBF;
- Assisting the VBF in planning, implementing and evaluating the national VBF electronic data network services;
- Working as a team member with other  VBF Communications staff and part-time writers, including the VBF website personnel in the performance of their duties, and local bar representatives on communications materials;
- Monitoring VBF media relations for the President and the VBF, including the development of public policy, the preparation of speeches and news releases, the organization of news conferences and media facilities, and the scheduling of media interviews;
- Assisting with the planning, development, management and control of communications budgets;
- Supporting the development of the Internet homepage and the operation of the VBF website, newsletter or magazine;
- Assisting in the engagement of short-term external communications support as needed.

Qualifications, Skills and Professional Requirements
- University Degree in Communications or related field; and a Law Degree is an asset.
- Fluency in Vietnamese and English;
- Excellent writing and editing skills in Vietnamese, good writing skills in English;
- Three years experience in communication/media;
- Knowledge of computers and electronic data bases;
- Public Relations experience at the policy level;
- Management experience;
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team member with staff and volunteers;
- Self-motivated and able to work independently;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of organization;
- Ability to attend weekend meetings, work overtime and travel as required; and
- General familiarity with the legal field/legal profession.
