WCS Viet Nam Program Overview:

WCS has been working in Viet Nam since early 2006 to strengthen the commitment and capacity of the Vietnamese government to combat wildlife trafficking. It has established a well-respected presence in the country, providing support to a range of government agencies. WCS Viet Nam have generated a wide range of reliable data on a number of related issues and trained about 1,200 law enforcement officers from a range of agencies in investigation and enforcement techniques, and distributed a number of technical handbooks and guides. It has assisted central agencies to review and propose criminal intelligence analysis systems, inter-agency agreements and cooperation, national legislation, and have supported bi-lateral dialogues to suppress the wildlife trade and strengthen Viet Nam’s enforcement response. Its wildlife health expertise has been leveraged in Viet Nam to address core conservation issues, like wildlife trade, through collaborative research, training, and policy development.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Communication Manager, the Communication Intern will work closely with the Communication Officer. S/he is responsible for supporting the implementation of all communication activities under on-going projects, assisting the Communication Officer in managing WCS’ internal communication and joining Com Team in delivering all committed results and deliverables in its work-plan.

This Job Description is progressive in nature and shall be reviewed and amended from time to time to meet WCS Viet Nam program needs.

Responsibilities:

A. External Communications

  • Assists in scanning wildlife trade news and preparing a daily media digest called News Scan (in both Vietnamese and English), provide input to News Scan data file;
  • Provides support in production and dissemination of communications materials (e.g.: making layout for reports, taking photos, getting quotations to hire agencies to produce communication products);
  • Cooperates with other team members in organising WCS Viet Nam events including donor visits, study tours, regional meetings, training and staff events;

B. Internal Communications

  • Provides support in managing systems of communications and materials (e.g. gift and branded goods inventory, presentation/report/press release tracking tool);
  • Translates WCS working documents into English and Vietnamese;
  • Supports with proofreading of WCS’ reports, publications and communication materials;

C. Others

  • Support Com Team with financial process to ensure compliance of WCS’s financial policies and procedures
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Line Manager.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor/college degree;
  • Excellent English and Vietnamese language skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • Proven ability to conduct internet-based research;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;

In addition, the following qualifications are assets:

  • Bachelor/college degree in a related field such as Communications, Journalism;
  • Experience with an international organisation or NGO;
  • Having skills in data management, graphic design & videography;
  • Experience in organization of events.

Allowance, benefits:

This communication internship is for those who are serious about pursuing their career path in communications/marketing/non-profit/development field and longing to learn about wildlife conservation.

The intern is expected to work 37.5 hours a week within our official working time (8:30-12:00 in the morning & 1:00 - 5:00 in the afternoon, Monday to Friday).

Allowance: 5,000,000 VND/month.
