ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW

In the Mekong region covering Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Vietnam, our advisory services are delivered in partnership with Canada, the European Union, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Switzerland.
IFC is recruiting a Vietnamese short-term corporate communications consultant to support our operations in the Mekong sub-region covering Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao PDR and Thailand, and Vietnam in particular to cover a maternity leave. The job is demanding and requires an exceptional ability to manage multiple tasks, function in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, and deliver under tight deadlines. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, possess strong organizational skills, and enjoy interaction with a wide range of internal and external constituencies. S/he must assimilate into IFC’s hybrid public-private culture quickly and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism.
ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION
IFC proposes to hire a short-term Communications consultant for up to 100 working days during the period from May 1, 2011 to October 30, 2012 to cover the Communications Officer’s absence during maternity leave (about 35 days from May 1 to June 30, 2012 and 65 days from July 1 to October 30, 2012). Detail working schedule will be negotiated during the job interview. The key objective of the assignment is to manage IFC’s communications activities in Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao PDR and Thailand.
Working closely with IFC Mekong team members and the IFC EAP communications practice group, and meeting IFC standards, styles and branding guidelines, under the supervision of Head of Communications for East Asia and the Pacific, the main tasks fall broadly into two broad categories:
External Communications:
- Media and public relations: proactively promote IFC visibility and brand in local markets/media through working with project teams to coordinate media related events and prepare news-worthy materials to regularly provide to media.
- Prepare marketing/promotional materials to be distributed through various channels of print, online, social media to external audiences
- Manage IFC brand
Internal Communications:
- Coordinate a smooth internal communications among IFC network
- Contribute to the production of EAP communications products
Perform other duties as requested.
The assignment is based in Hanoi, Vietnam and will require some travel in the Mekong sub-region and elsewhere in Asia.

QUALIFICATION CRITERIA
Interested candidates are expected to have:
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in media relations, public relations, journalism, publishing, or stakeholder engagement in Vietnam
- Degree in journalism, communications, public policy, marketing or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Overseas work experience and demonstrated aptitude for communicating on international finance strongly preferred
- Strong understanding and good contacts among Vietnamese press
- Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization preferred
- Ability to operate under pressure and tight deadlines with accuracy and professionalism
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a willingness to work in a diverse team environment
- User knowledge of all common desktop applications, including the Microsoft Office package
- Exceptional ability to write and communicate in English and Vietnamese
