PATH is currently recruiting for a part-time Communications Officer to produce high quality communications materials for a variety of audiences, in English. The Communications Officer will primarily support the Vaccine and Immunization program, under the management of the Program Director. The Communications Officer may also support any other of PATH’s projects in Vietnam as required, working under the management of the Mekong Regional Business Development and Communications Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Vaccines and Immunization team to develop strategic communications plans and activities to promote program goals.
  • Supporting the production of high-quality English versions of implementation guides, manuals, tools and other materials related to health information systems supported by the Vaccine and Immunization team. Specific tasks include editing, liaising with technical teams to ensure accuracy and clarity of technical content, and ensuring appropriate, attractive, and functional formatting.
  • Developing tools and working with the Vaccine and Immunization/health information systems technical team to capture key successes, challenges, and lessons learned, that can support peers within the country, region, and worldwide.
  • Documenting and disseminating lessons learned through a variety of platforms, including PATH.org, relevant external blogs and online channels, mass media, academic articles, conferences, and other fora.
  • Identifying, connecting with, and linking technical staff to key digital health networks and forums worldwide, to share learning from Vietnam.
  • Supporting the Vaccine and Immunization technical team to identify, attend, and produce content for relevant conferences, events, and fora.
  • Playing a key role in the development of dissemination and learning events hosted by PATH.
  • Supporting the Vaccine and Immunization team to develop high quality academic publications.
  • Supporting other projects’ communications efforts as required, by editing, writing and proofreading a wide variety of materials (such as presentations, press releases, reports, and publications) for different audiences, including donors, the global public health community, Vietnamese partners, and the media.
  • Ensuring that PATH quality standards and design norms are met for all materials by helping team members comply with established procedures and processes.

Required skills and experience

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, communications, international development, or other relevant field
  • At least one year of relevant, demonstrated experience working in communications, advocacy, or reporting, especially related to health, development, technology, or related field
  • Fluent English speaker with excellent written and speaking skills, preferably native English speaker.
  • Strong writing skills across a variety of different styles and platforms
  • An understanding of the Vietnam cultural and socio-economic context
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate good working relationships with diverse colleagues
  • Ability to learn about and translate complex concepts into accessible, interesting copy
  • High level of IT competency with the ability to create attractive communications materials, using Word and PowerPoint at a minimum.

Strongly preferred

  • An understanding of the Vietnamese health system/health-related experience in Vietnam
  • A demonstrated interest in digital health systems and innovation
  • Experience using Adobe Creative programs or similar
  • Experience writing or supporting the development of peer-reviewed academic journal articles.

The Communications Officer will be based at the PATH office in Hanoi Towers, 49 Hai Ba Trung Street, Hanoi. The Communications Officer will be employed for 60% of the working week, with the potential to become a full time employee if funding becomes available.
