Project Objective

Social Impact (SI) is implementing the USAID/Vietnam Learns Contract. The scope of the five-year project is to support USAID/Vietnam staff and its implementing partners to implement more efficient, effective, and sustainable programs by (1) improving staff knowledge and skills in Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) and Collaborating, Learning & Adapting (CLA); (2) advancing evidence-informed decision-making; (3) strengthening strategic collaboration between staff and local stakeholders.

About USAID’s Diversity, Development and Diplomacy Professional Development Program

USAID Diversity, Development and Diplomacy Professional Development Program (USAID DDD) is a recruitment initiative for talented university students to develop skills and professional capacity. Young Professionals (YPs) joining the program will have the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills related to programming international development activities; developing program budgets for international donors such as USAID; and providing technical assistance to implementing partners, civil society, Government of Vietnam officials, and other donors. YPs in the USAID DDD will be given the opportunity to:

  • Work in a professional, creative, and agile environment focused on making positive change in Vietnam.
  • Experience a range of training and professional development opportunities and exposure to new tools and techniques.
  • Build a marketable skillset through substantive technical work.
  • Gain insights on project management.

The USAID DDD lasts for 03 months, and YPs receive a stipend of VND 11,600,000 per month.           

Position Description

SI seeks to hire a full-time Communications Young Professional to support the USAID Vietnam Development Outreach and Communications (DOC) team starting in June 2024. This position is based in Hanoi and will report to the Creative Advisor on the DOC team. The incumbent will be tasked with coordinating with the DOC team on both internal and external communications for social media content and longer format storytelling highlighting USAID's work in Vietnam. As a member of the DOC team, the candidate will support the team in a variety of ways including but not limited to; clearing paperwork, supporting events, sourcing content for social media, and conducting site visits across Vietnam with members of team to support with interviews. The candidate will also be responsible for general admin day to day tasks to support all members of the DOC office.

Selection Criteria

  • Current Vietnamese University student in year 3 or later studying communications or media arts.
  • Keen interest in contributing to creating content to tell USAID’s story in Vietnam, highlighting development goals and the United States and Vietnam’s newly elevated relationship, to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
  • Ability to translate technical information into content comprehensible to both the Vietnamese and U.S. audiences in the form of press releases and social media content.
  • Strong ability to pay attention to detail, while remaining agile, quick-thinking, creative, and proactive.
  • Strong willingness to learn, collaborate, and support a communication team.
  • High level of English and Vietnamese reading and writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Photography and video production skills, design knowledge a plus.
  • Experience in using Google online office programs.

Communications YP will be expected to:

Assist the execution of DOC team’s tasks, which possibly include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in and support the DOC team’s daily tasks, including liaising with both the Front Office, technical offices, and implementing partners.
  • Provide support for events the DOC team either leads or supports.
  • Translate documents and social media from English into Vietnamese.
  • Travel on site visits across Vietnam to conduct interviews and collect visual content.

By the end of the assignment, the Communications YP will:

  • Become conversant in USAID/Vietnam’s communications processes, approaches, and related activities.
  • Acquire the skills to communicate USAID policy and development goals through written and visual means.
