Position Title: Construction Technician cum Supervisor
Report to: Construction Technical Support Manager
Work Location: Ho Chi Minh Office and building sites
Supervise: None

Job Summary

This position provides hybrid-roles, 50% of working time in Construction Technical Assistant and 50% of working time directly responsible for construction safety & quality at assigned sites.

Key Accountabilities

1. Provide construction technical deliverables as below:

  • Adjust Housing Designs and Cost Estimation to provide onsite Construction Supervisors” Designs and Cost Estimation affordable with families yet remain the required quality;
  • Develop new disaster resilient model houses;
  • Develop illustration images/videos/material for Construction Technical Documents such as disaster resilient construction technique booklets, construction training materials, ...
  • Make plans and solutions for Construction Safety Measures based on Volunteer Schedule;
  • Arrange and/or conduct the construction/technical trainings;
  • Provide technical supports to Program Team in consultation with supervisor when necessary.

2. Monitor application of policies, procedures and guidelines at construction sites.

  • Field visit to check implementation of policies, construction quality control system and construction safety regulations;
  • Review Volunteer Pre-Construction Checklist and Daily Safety Checklist sent by Construction Supervisors.

3. Support Program Team to host volunteer builds:

  • Ensure sufficient construction tools and HFHV safety conditions before and during volunteers’ build activities at sites through:
    • Checking safety conditions, site preparation, construction tools and personnel protective equipment’s, emergency process on site by the checklists;
    • Reporting unsuitable conditions to direct supervisor and working with Program CS, Project Officer and other relevant personnel to ensure safety conditions in place for build.
  • Arrange construction activities, provide instructions for local masons, provide orientation construction works and safety for volunteer.

4. Make periodical reports as required by HFHV and direct supervisor

Job requirements

To be successful in this role, willingness & availability to travel frequently as required and following minimum requirements are met.

  • Diploma in architecture or construction or equivalents is a must
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office package and key construction design software, including AutoCAD, Sketchup and Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings
  • Has experience to do basic construction works: mixing mortar, laying brick, form work, rebar work, finishing work
  • Able to develop construction works process for building house and monitor the whole process
  • Knowledge of government regulations on construction safety, local building codes, construction techniques, requirements and other appropriate governmental regulations
