The Spanish Association for Peace and Development (PyD) is currently implementing the Regional programme for the promotion of political participation with gender equality in Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Philippines and Timor Leste, funded by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional, AECID) (Program “Women in Politics”).

The Development objective of the Program is to contribute to the realization of women's rights to civil and political participation in the region of intervention. The specific objective of the Program include, among others, is to increase the exercise of women's citizenship, specially of the most disadvantaged groups in the target areas with expected results of strengthened capacities of women rights holders to participate in their community life and increased awareness of rights holders and moral bearers on women's civil and political rights. The target intervention area at the sub-national level includes Province of Quang Nam and Da Nang City.

For the achievements of these results capacity building and communication activities are planned in 2013 by PyD and its partners, the women unions in Quang Nam and Da Nang and Quang Nam University. Among them are to organize a day of promoting women’s political and civil participation in Da Nang, a festival for increasing awareness on gender and women’s political and civil rights at Quang Nam university and other communication initiatives to promote women’s participation in politics and in public life. A training program will be designed and conducted to raise the capacity of the members of the women unions and selective representatives of Quang Nam University involved in the Program to enable them to design communication activities and using selective communication tools for promoting women's political rights and citizenship. The training will be closely related to the needs for organization of the planned activities, and the knowledge and skills learnt during the training will be used for practical implementation of the planned communication activities of the Program. The participants will also be assisted in designing communication activities and tools.

The target training participants: Staff of the women’s unions in Quang Nam and Da Nang at provincial and district levels and 2-3 representatives from Quang Nam university. These are people who will be involved in the activities of the PyD program and staff in charge of communication in the respective women unions.

Training Approach: The training should include the skills that will help participants to perform their tasks and to implement the Program activities efficiently. A participatory and trainee-centered approach should be employed.
