I.            Background

II.          Consultancy service description

1.    Objectives

The IBA Vietnam is currently supporting one of our clients in developing sustainable canna production material zone in Thanh Hoa province. SNV is looking for a national consultancy to provide technical service on sustainable canna production and post-harvest.

The main objective of the consultancy is i) to provide intensive training for 200 canna producers of IBA client; ii) establish and maintain pilot plots testing a new canna variety (selected by IBA client) in Thanh Hoa province.

We are seeking an experienced consultant(s) to work under the guidance of IBA Program Manager to execute following works:

2.    Scope of work

The consultant(s) will fulfil the following tasks, in cooperation with IBA client and under the supervision of IBA Program Manager

  • Design a 5-day Training of Farmer (ToF) curricula and training materials on canna production and post-harvest practices with participatory method and course agenda for the training courses;
  • Collaborate with IBA client in conducting 4 training courses (5 day/course) in Thanh Hoa province for 200 farmers of IBA clients; and
  • Coordinate and consult the development of the detailed designs and establishment of the demo plots including the procurement of seedling and fertilizer

3.    Deliverables

  • One set of 5-day ToF training documents on sustainable canna production and post-harvest practices at farmer level including training agenda and training materials;
  • 4 training courses (5 day/course) on canna production organized in Thanh Hoa province;
  • At least 5ha of demo pilots established testing a new canna variety (selected by IBA client) in Thanh Hoa province; and
  • Short consultancy report (Vietnamese) highlighting training and pilot results and recommendations for IBA client on canna production and post-harvest

III.        Qualifications, skills and experience required:

The consultant and/or group of consultants should meet the following requirements:

  • Having good understanding on canna production; 
  • Experience with training and developing training materials for canna production and processing;
  • Significant and intensive practical experience in supporting and facilitating farmer groups in different agriculture value chains from establishment to operation and sustainable management in Vietnam;
  • Having experienced in supply chain management in private sector/enterprises;
  • Being fluent in research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative methods);
  • Being able to deliver the committed outputs on time;
  • Having excellent analytical skills and report writing skill in English;
