Consultant for JSDF Grant (from August –November 2011)

The project "Improving quality basic education for ethnic minority children in three disadvantaged provinces in Vietnam” is a joint project of the Save the Children and implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training (Department of the Ethnic minority education as the lead agency) in the three provinces of Yen Bai, Quang Tri and Dien Bien. The project is funded by a grant from the Japanese Social Development Fund (JSDF Grant No. TF093411), a trust fund managed by the World Bank. The total grant is USD1,809,000. The overall objective of the project is to assist the government of Vietnam in supporting children aged 5–14 from ethnic minority communities in three provinces of Vietnam to complete a quality primary education and continue their education in
lower secondary school.
Vacancy: Consultant for JSDF Grant (from August –November 2011)
Work location: Hanoi
The project is looking for a National Consultant to develop ‘A Practical Guide to Develop Vietnamese Vocabulary for Ethnic Minority Children’ for primary teachers to help them boost minority ethnic children's learning.
Main Responsibilities
In close consultation and cooperation with Save the Children staff, the main tasks of this consultant are the followings:
- Design and conduct one day training on techniques to increase Vietnamese vocabulary for ethnic minority children, who speak Vietnamese as the second language
- Develop an intended material: A Practical Guide to Develop Vietnamese Vocabulary for Ethnic Minority Children.

Key Competencies:
- Master Degree in education, especially in primary education or second language acquisition
- Minimum 5 years experience in teacher training, especially for disadvantaged areas
- Primary teaching experience
- Experience of teaching second language to children
- Experience of teaching through the medium of second language
- Experience of designing teacher training & development packages
- Strong communication, facilitation and teamwork skills
- Working knowledge of education policies and practice, especially in curriculum
- Must be computer literate and English skill is preferable.
