Background

Aquaculture is one of the priorities, which WWF Vietnam contributes the intervention for more sustainable production. Aquaculture makes valuable contributions to local livelihoods and jobs for local people – from subsistence farmers practicing aquaculture to more specialized commercial enterprises operated by small households as well as larger integrated multinational companies. However, it also poses several threats to the environmental health of the region as well as potentially causes negative impacts to the locally surrounded communities.

To help protecting the environment and maintain conservation values as well as to promote the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta, WWF-Vietnam has set specific targets for promoting responsible farming practices through Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification. One of requirements of the ASC shrimp standards is that the farm owner has to conduct studies on Biodiversity-Environmental Impact Assessment (BEIA) and participatory Social Impact Assessment (p-SIA) at the farm level by experienced experts. In order to support two cooperatives/farmer groups in Bac Lieu and Soc Trang provinces moving forwards to ASC shrimp standards, WWF-Vietnam is seeking to hire a consultant team to take on the responsibilities of conducting the BEIA and pSIA studies in line with the ASC shrimp standards for these two cooperatives/farmer groups.
